El Resumen de tesis es:
Higher-curvature gravities can be used to obtain relevant information on boundary field theories through the AdS/CFT correspondence. In this context, we discuss properties and classification of a particularly interesting subset of theories, known as generalized quasi-topological gravities. In the case of three-dimensional gravities, we provide insights on completely general higher-curvature gravities and show that generalized quasi-topological gravities must be supplemented with matter fields in order to find nontrivial solutions. Then, we turn our attention to holographic entanglement entropy. We show that studying the renormalized version of this quantity using the Kounterterms renormalization scheme can be used to study its dependence on the shape of the entangling region for three-dimensional CFTs dual to Einstein gravity as well as to identify c-function candidates for CFTs dual to quadratic-curvature gravity. Regarding the shape-dependence, we observe that the disk-like entangling region maximizes entanglement entropy. We show that this result holds for completely general CFTs in three dimensions.
