I am an astrophysisist working at the Department of Physics of Universidad Técnica Fedrico Santa María (USM).
Although I’m interested in a broad range of topics, the bulk of my research focuses on understanding the formation and evolution of galaxies as a function of cosmic time and environment. In particular, most of my recent work has been dedicated to understand the physical processes removing gas and quenching the star formation in galaxies inside massive galaxy clusters and their surroundings.
I am originally from Venezuela, where I studied physics at Universidad Simón Bolívar. I did my PhD at the University of Nottingham (UK) and I have had research posts at Centro de Investigaciones de Astronomia (CIDA, Venezuela), NASA – Goddard Space Flight Center (USA), European Southern Observatory (in Germany and Chile), and Universidad de Concepción (Chile). Before joining the astrophysics group at USM I also worked as a professor at Universidad de Valparaíso.
